Bio

Kiersten Smith earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and a teaching credential from Brigham Young University, Idaho, as well as a Master’s degree in Violin Performance at San Diego State University. She taught elementary and middle school band and orchestra in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and instrumental music in the Arcadia and El Cajon School Districts. She was also a string coach for the East County Youth Symphony. Kiersten began her music studies on violin at a young age when she begged her parents for violin lessons until they relented. She started her first private violin student when she was in high school. She is now loving being violin faculty for the SDSU Community Music School, and is happy to continue to be a part of the SDSU community. Inspired by the teaching styles of Paul Rolland, Mimi Zweig, and Shinichi Suzuki, Kiersten aims to create a positive, non-judgmental environment for her students to learn. She feels very strongly that proper set-up and a relaxed body will produce the best sound and can be achieved by any beginner.
