Bio
For decades Frank Almond influenced choral culture in San Diego through his longstanding presence at San Diego State University and his tenure leading a revitalization of the San Diego Master Chorale (appointed in 1984). Almond earned his A.B. and M.A. from SDSU, where as a graduate student he served as a conductor and soloist in the days when SDSU’s 800-person choir would perform Handel’s Messiah in Peterson Gymnasium. After his SDSU studies he went on to earn his Ph.D. from Florida State University and became a professor at SDSU, where he spent the next 35 years leading choirs and teaching graduate-student conductors. A passionate and dedicated teacher, in 1982 and 1985 he was named Most Influential Faculty by the year’s outstanding graduating students.
