Jazz Auditions - Spring 2024

Jazz Auditions for Spring 2024 will be held in person during the first week of classes starting on 1/17, in room 119a of the SDSU Music Building.   Please see audtion times and dates below.

If you plan to play your junior level jury, please sign up for two slots in a row and fill out the pink form.

You MUST fill out an audition form with your personal info (name/cell/email) and your class schedule. These will be provided onsite.

If you are auditioning for a combo, prepare one piece of standard jazz repertoire – play the melody, then improvise.  If your selection is “obscure” be sure to bring three C treble copies for the accompanists.  For a sample list of repertoire for your level, please see this page: https://music.sdsu.edu/admission/repertoire-jazz . No ballads, please. 

Additionally, everyone will sightread selections to be provided during the audition.  Audition results will be posted here https://music.sdsu.edu/music-program/jazz-studies/ensembles-combos by Friday evening, 1/19.

All ensembles and combos will begin meeting in person to rehearse on the week of Monday 1/22.
