Trumpet

Undergraduate:

A representative solo work such as Haydn, Hummel, Arutunian, Hindemith, or Kennan; a contrasting lyric etude; Major scales.

Graduate/Artist Diploma:

Solo (Haydn Concerto, first and second movements, or a concerto or solo piece of applicant’s choice) and orchestral excerpts selected from the following: Mahler Symphony No. 5; Mussorgsky-Ravel Pictures at an Exhibition; Ravel Piano Concerto in G; Respighi Pines of Rome; Shostakovich Symphony No. 5, first movement; Strauss Don Juan, lyric solo; Stravinsky, Petrouchka; sight reading.



Horn

Undergraduate:

Two contrasting movements from Mozart, Concerto No. 2, 3 or 4, or Strauss, Concerto No. 1, or a comparable work; selected excerpts from the symphonic repertoire; Major, minor, and chromatic scales.

Graduate/Artist Diploma:

Strauss, Concerto No. 1 or comparable work; a 20th-century work for horn alone; selected orchestral excerpts; sight reading.



Trombone

Undergraduate:

A representative solo work such as Rimsky Korsakov, Guilmant or Saint Saens; a Bordogni/Rochut or similar lyrical Etude; Major Scales

Graduate/Artist Diploma:

Solo (concerto or solo piece of applicant’s choice) and orchestral excerpts selected from the following: Berlioz, Rakoczy March, second trombone part; Mahler, Symphony No. 3, 14-17 and 33-34; Mozart, Requiem, Tuba Mirum; Ravel, Bolero; Rossini, Overture to La Gazza Ladra; Schumann, Symphony No. 3; Wagner, Ride of the Valkyries; sight reading.



Bass Trombone

Undergraduate:

A representative solo work such as Lieb, Lebedjew, or McCarty; a Bordogni/Rochut or similar lyrical Etude; Major Scales.

Graduate/Artist Diploma:

A representative solo work such as Lebedjew, Bozza or Vaughan Williams; JS Bach Sarabande from Cello Suite #5; orchestral excerpts including Haydn Creation, Berlioz Hungarian March, and Respighi Fountains of Rome; Major and Minor scales.



Euphonium/Baritone Horn

Undergraduate:

A representative solo work such as Curnow, Barat, or Capuzzi; a Bordogni/Rochut or similar lyrical Etude; Major Scales.

Graduate/Artist Diploma:

All major and minor scales and arpeggios (two octaves as well as chromatic scale (three octaves); Etude from Book 3 of the Rochut Melodious Etudes, solo (Horovitz Euphonium Concerto Movement 3 or similar); sight reading.



Tuba

Undergraduate:

A representative solo work such as Haddad, Marcello or Vaughan-Williams; a contrasting Etude by Blazhevich or Bordogni; Major Scales.

Graduate/Artist Diploma:

Solo (Vaughan Williams Concerto for Bass Tuba, first movement, or piece of your choice); excerpts by Bruckner, Symphony #7, 4th move: P to S; Strauss, Also Sprach, 2nd Tuba part. Stravinsky, Rite of Spring, 2nd Tuba part: 64 to 71 part I,  186 to 189 part II; Berlioz, Symphony Fantastique, 2nd Tuba: 4th move. & 5th mvt. (Dies Irae only); sight reading.
