  1. CCP2-3, Exer. #1. 12 Major pentachords. *C diatonic. Octave; rhythms.
  2. CCP3, Exer. #2. Major/minor positions. Staccato; dynamics.

SCALES:

  1. CCP14-15 or F230#4. Major scales of C,G,*D. Hands alone, then together. Two octaves. *F29g in G, C and D Major.
  2. CCP 42. Dorian mode. Keys of C,G,*D. Right hand only.

CHORDS:

  1. CCP4. Major/minor/diminished/augmented triads. All keys.
  2. CCP5 Triads: root, first and second inversions. Also play chromatically.
  3. CCP24. Major/dominant/minor/half-diminished/diminished seventh chords.
  4. F11c. Chord inversions in C, F and G Major/minor.

PROGRESSIONS:

  1. F11g: I-V7-I. Root position in all maj/min keys. Name chords. *Inversions.
  2. CCP6-7: I-IV-V7-I. All major keys. *CCP18: i-iv-V7-i, min. keys.
    • Root position only . Chords in both hands.

LITERATURE:

  1. CCP10: Play as written. Transpose to D, D-flat and B. *Accompaniment patterns. *Create Band-in-a-Box accompaniment.
  2. F19#15: Play with block chords; then as written
    • Transpose to F and A Major , G Minor and G Dorian
    • Create melodic variations.
  3. F32#3 and 4: Block chords, then play as written. Create variations of the accompaniment style. Transpose to F and A Major, G Dorian.

IMPROVISATION:

  1. CCP8, Question & Answer: Pentatonic. *CCP35: I-IV-V7-I. Use chord tones.
  2. CCP64-67: 12-bar blues. Improvise chord tones. *Blue third: CCP68-69. Improvise as directed.
  3. CCP25. Improvise with parallel 7ths.

HARMONIZATION:

  1. CCP 11-12; *19: Sigthread before transposing (block chords). *Accompaniment styles.
  2. F22, 24. As assigned. Use accompaniment styles as assigned.
  3. F36. Keys given in class.

PLAY BY EAR:
