Dance Auditions for Students Entering Fall 2012

When:
Saturday, February 11th or Sunday, February 12th, 2012

Audition requirements
Entrance auditions in Dance consist of a warm-up demonstrating basic technical skills, a center adagio combination, and traveling phrases demonstrating jumping and turning locomotion.  The audition concludes with a brief creative study involving improvisation.  The audition lasts approximately two and one-half hours. Wear form-fitting dance attire, no loose tops or bottoms. You will dance in bare feet.

Students may also elect to perform an additional (optional) solo dance (two-minute minimum, five-minute maximum) prepared by the student in modern dance, ballet, jazz, or other dance form.  These presentations will be scheduled directly after the conclusion of the audition class.

If you cannot appear on one of the two dates, you may send a clearly marked DVD or VHS with short examples of basic dance skills and one or more longer examples of performance in a set choreography. The Entrance Audition Application and the DVD or VHS must be received on or before January 13, 2012.  Students are strongly encouraged to audition in person as admission is highly selective and competitive.

How to request an audition
Please complete and return the Dance Audition Application by January 13, 2012. Your requested audition date will be confirmed by email or by phone.

Audition location and time
The audition will start promptly at 10:00am in the ENS building, room 200. Please plan to arrive early to sign in and register.

Audition results notification
Information regarding the results of your dance audition will be mailed to you by the School of Music and Dance, normally by mid-March. 

Please note your final acceptance to a degree program in the School of Music and Dance is contingent upon your confirmation of acceptance by San Diego State University.
