| Strings Division |
The strings studio is one of the largest divisions within the School of Music and Dance. We offer both Bachelors and Masters degrees in music, an undergraduate Performance Certificate, and the prestigious Artist Diploma for our most advanced graduate students in performance. Nationally recognized for our renowned “Artist Diploma” string quartet in residence program, the School of Music & Dance offers a two-year tenure program for pre-existing quartets, and is generously sponsored by the Joe Fisch Scholarship and the La Jolla Music Society. Our primary mission is to offer a first-rate education for students preparing a successful career in all performing fields. The string division offers applied lessons and coaching in both chamber strings and mixed ensembles. Major performance ensembles include the SDSU Symphony Orchestra and the Opera Chamber Orchestra. To guarantee an optimal “hands-on” experience for future solo, chamber, and orchestra players, the string program offers a wide and diverse array of classes, including String Forum (a training platform for performers) and Orchestra Repertoire and Techniques. Finally, our highly qualified artist-faculty includes principal players of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, and national/internationally acclaimed artists that have active performing careers throughout Europe, South and North America. Recent tours have brought them to international culture centers such as New York City, Los Angeles, Berlin, Stockholm, Mexico City, Santiago de Chile, and Sao Paulo. |
