In the Spring of 2007, the School of Music & Dance premiered its newest chamber music offering: the PUNK ensemble. The purpose of this ensemble is to continue the traditions of true punk music that emerged during the years of 1974-79.
Each ensemble first focuses on the traditional Punk literature, including songs by the Ramones, Iggy and the Stooges, Sex Pistols, and The Velvet Underground. The PUNK ensemble continues, then, by creating original tunes that incorporate the punk aesthetic and attitude. The PUNK ensembles conclude the semester by presenting a full concert of original works.
Each band includes a core of two electric guitars, bass, and drums. Additions to the core ensemble (such as additional vocalists, keyboard, horns) are welcome if applicants possess the necessary attitude and background.
