Graduate Application Process in Music
 

1. To be considered for admission to SDSU, Graduate applicants must meet the minimum CSU eligibility requirements and SDSU requirements listed in the Graduate Bulletin as well as the requirements for the specific degree or credential program they are applying to.

2. Submit to the University: California State University application electronically at CSUMentor along with the $55 application fee.

3. Submit to SDSU Graduate Admissions:
Official transcripts (in sealed envelopes) from all postsecondary institutions attended
Note: Students who attended SDSU need only submit transcripts for work completed since last attendance. Students with international coursework must submit both the official transcript and proof of degree. If documents are in a language other than English, they must be accompanied by a certified English translation. GRE scores (www.ets.org, SDSU Institution Code 4682)
TOEFL score, if medium of instruction was in a language other than English (www.ets.org, SDSU Institution Code 4682)

4. Submit to the Department:
1) Two letters of reference
2) A one-page statement of personal aims and goals.
Do not send a partial packet. No applications will be reviewed until a complete packet has been received.

Fall Deadline
Domestic Applicants: July 1
International Applicants: July 1

Spring Deadline
Domestic Applicants: November 1
International Applicants: October 1

5. After applying to the University you will receive information directly from the School of Music and Dance regarding your audition. All incoming graduate students must audition in the Spring before Fall matriculation. If you wish, you may also be adjudicated for a scholarship at this time.

6. Please see APPLY & AUDITION: ENTRANCE/SCHOLARSHIP AUDITION DATES AND APPLICATIONS FOR MUSIC section of our web-site for information and an application. If you are unable to appear on these spring dates you may send a VHS tape or a DVD. Requirements for the audition are listed in the Graduate Music Handbook and on the Apply & Audition link.

7. If you successfully pass your audition please refer to the APPLY and AUDITION section of our website for dates and time of the orientation and placements tests. All incoming music students must attend and participate in this process to have music major status.
