Enrique Torál has been hailed as “an excellent tenor,” (Boston Globe) whose “radiant singing” (Chicago Tribune) and “unusually vivid” (Opera News) portrayals have been recognized across the country.  His performances in Wolf-Ferrari’s I Quattro Rusteghi inspired the San Francisco Metro News to exclaim, “Enrique Torál has the kind of fresh, unbridled tenor voice that can make the listener’s own lungs fill with a breath of admiration.”

A passionate voice teacher, dramatic coach and stage director with an active career on the stage he has a great understanding of the rigours and perils of making the transition from the final phases of the educational process to the beginning phases of a professional career.  Enrique Toral's experience has inspired him to further dispel the myths of performing by training and guiding young singers to tap into their full potential and become fully developed artists.

He frequently presents master classes and workshops around the country and is the Director of Artist Programs with Opera Company of Brooklyn.  His former students and apprentices have gone on to appear on Broadway and with the opera houses of New York City, Santa Fe, Dallas, Baltimore, Delaware, Boston and Zurich, among many.

On stage, Mr. Toral has appeared with the New York City Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Cincinnati Opera, New Orleans Opera, Opera Carolina, New Jersey State Opera, Connecticut Grand Opera, Opera Tampa, Sarasota Opera and El Paso Opera and has over 45 operatic roles to his credit, including the leading roles of Tamino, Fenton, Don Ottavio, Roméo, Almaviva, Alfredo, Pinkerton, Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Ruggero in La Rondine. A winner at numerous competitions, Mr. Torál was a District and Regional Winner in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Regional Winner in the MacAllister Awards for Opera Singers, a recipient of a Gerda Lissner Foundation Award, the Athena and James Garivaltis Fellowship Award and a Fellowship Grant Recipient in the Heinz Rehfuss Singing Actor Awards.

Recently, the tenor made his European debut singing the leading tenor roles in Rossini’s La Cambiale di Matrimonio and Il Signor Bruschino at the Teatro Sociale in Brescia, Italy. He has shared the stage with many of today’s leading operatic talents including Aprile Millo, Sumi Jo, Irina Mishura, Lauren Flanigan and Mark Delavan.  Other highlights include Falstaff under Seiji Ozawa - heard on NPR's World of Opera, and the world premiere of the triptych opera Central Park, creating the roles of Roy, the Man with Sun Reflectors in Beaser’s The Food of Love and The Boy in Torke’s Strawberry Fields - seen on PBS' Great Performances.

His musical theater performances are highlighted by his Broadway debut in Baz Luhrmann’s La Bohéme on Broadway (original cast recording) and appearing in the 57th Annual Tony Awards from Radio City Music Hall, broadcast on CBS.  Other musical theater roles include the title role in Candide, Henrik in A Little Night Music, Tony in West Side Story and Teen Angel in Grease.

Concert engagements for Enrique Torál include performances with New York City Opera – Vox: Showcasing American Composers, Opera Orchestra of New York, Eos Orchestra, Orchestra Gianandrea Gavazzeni, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Northern Kentucky Symphony and with the Music Festivals at Ravinia and Tanglewood.  An avid recitalist, Mr. Torál has appeared with the Glimmerglass Opera, Tanglewood Festival of Contemporary Music, and the San Francisco Art Song Festival, honoring guest Ned Rorem and his works.

Mr. Torál is a proud member of National Association of Teachers of Singing, American Guild of Musical Artists, Actors Equity Association and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.  For more info visit www.EnriqueToral.com.
