Bio

Bryan K. Ransom has been involved with the University Bands at San Diego State since 1988. Ensembles currently under his direction and coordination at SDSU include the Marching Aztecs, Pep Band (Men’s Basketball Band) and Varsity Band (Women’s Basketball Band). In his administrative role, Mr. Ransom is in charge of budget management, performance and travel arrangements, recruitment, music library maintenance, and support staff supervision.

Mr. Ransom received both his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music (with an emphasis in percussion) and Professional Teaching Credential from San Diego State University.

In addition to his responsibilities with the University, he is active in live music and sporting event production. Large-scale entertainment production credits include multiple Super Bowl Pregame, Halftime, and Postgame shows, NFL Kickoff, Pro Bowl, and Thanksgiving Day Pregame and Halftime Shows, Major League Baseball All-Star games and Opening Day Ceremonies, Davis Cup and Fed Cup International tennis matches, Major League Soccer events, the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, feature films, and numerous additional NCAA Championships events. For 25 years, (1992-2016) Mr. Ransom served as Stage Manager / On-field Entertainment Coordinator for the San Diego Chargers.

Mr. Ransom has provided marching instruction, visual coordination, drill charting services, and percussion arrangements for numerous high schools, and is in demand as a clinician and adjudicator at high school band competitions throughout the Western States. His marching band / drumline arrangements have been published by Mesa Music Publishing, Matrix Publishing, and Jalen Publishing. Mr. Ransom performs extensively as a percussionist at various musical theater venues throughout San Diego County, and serves as Orchestra Manager / Contractor for Moonlight Stage Productions Summer Season musicals.

Mr. Ransom is a proud member of the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA) and the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA). He is an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma, national honorary band fraternity and sorority, and a Distinguished Member/Friend of the Arts in the Sigma Alpha Iota international music fraternity.


In 2013, Mr. Ransom received the Monty Award from the San Diego State University Alumni Association for distinguished service to the University.
