AUDITION REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS

Piano instruction

PIANO

Undergraduate

The candidate should prepare a minimum of two contrasting selections from the standard piano repertoire. A movement of a sonata or the equivalent is recommended.  The selections should represent technical and lyrical capabilities and must be memorized. Major and minor scales as well as sight-reading are required for the audition.

 

Graduate/Artist Diploma

The candidate must prepare a minimum of three selections representing three different musical periods. One of these selections must be an allegro movement from a Classical sonata. These selections should represent the candidate’s technical and lyrical capabilities. All music must be memorized. Sight-reading may also be required.

 

PIANO PEDAGOGY

Graduate

The student must prepare a minimum of three selections representing three different musical periods. One of these selections must be an allegro movement from a Classical sonata. These selections should represent the student’s technical and lyrical capabilities. All music must be memorized. Sight-reading may also be included.


Prior to the audition for the graduate piano pedagogy program, the student must submit an example of scholarly writing, specifically a typed research paper on a legitimate pedagogical topic, to Professor J. Mitzi Kolar.
