Hyperion String Quartet
www.hyperionquartet.com  The Hyperion String Quartet is proud to be the inaugural Resident String Quartet at San Diego State University in collaboration with the La Jolla Music Society. The Quartet was awarded the top prizes at the 2004 Coleman Chamber Music Competition, the 2005 Green Lake Chamber Music Competition and the 2005 Music Teachers National Association Chamber Music Competition.
Since its formation in 1999 at the Eastman School of Music, the Quartet has performed extensively from California to Lincoln Center and has had live radio appearances in Canada and Connecticut. Members of the Quartet have performed with such artists as Toby Appel, Melvin Chen, Jennifer Frautschi, Benny Kim, Anne-Marie McDermott, Sophie Shao, and members of the Miró Quartet. They have been selected to participate in such prestigious programs as the Juilliard String Quartet seminar, Quartetfest with the Penderecki String Quartet, and the Lake Tahoe Summer Chamber Music Festival. They were the Quartet in Residence at the Strings in the Mountains Festival in Steamboat Springs, Colorado in 2002 and 2003 and served as Young Artist Ensemble in Residence at the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival in the summer of 2005.
The Quartet is highly dedicated to music education and performs community outreach concerts on behalf of the La Jolla Music Society and SDSU as part of their residency in San Diego. They were Artists in Residence for Young Audiences of Rochester and also held the New Performing Arts Kentucky Residency, which gave them the opportunity to teach chamber music to students of all ages. The Quartet has served as adjunct faculty in the Community Division of the Hartt School as well as mentors to the Connecticut Youth Symphony. They have coached with Anthea Kreston, Antonio Lysy, Robert Mann, Christopher Rowland, Steven Thomas, and Zvi Zeitlin, as well as members of the Cavani, Chester, Cleveland, Colorado, Guarneri, Juilliard, and Tokyo String Quartets. They have worked most extensively with the Miami, Miró, Penderecki, and Ying Quartets. The quartet held the Graduate String Quartet Residency at Kent State University (2002-2004), and at the Hartt School (2004-2005).
